The Lesson of the Sand Dollar
by Charles Dale Gray
Symbolic of the life of Christ
Are many earthly things
The dove of peace, The lily white
The fresh beauty of the spring
But take a look and you will see
Sand dollars far and wide
All tell, as well, the story true
How Jesus lived and died
On one side, in the center
Is the star that shone so bright
That led the shepherds to our Lord
That Holy Christmas night
And all around the star there lies
The Easter lily fair
An emblem of God’s love for us
His son He did not spare
By way of nails and Roman spear
Five wounds in Christ were made
Examine once again the shell
Five wounds are there displayed
On the back and in white splendor
A poinsettia there is sketched
So exquisite is it’s imprint
That perhaps by God was etched
With care now break it open
Five doves of white you’ll see
Remind us that God’s love and peace
Endure eternally
